Cekhia Coleman flees police after alleged vehicle break-ins at Landing Flats Apartments

18-year-old Cekhia Coleman was caught attempting to flee police after an incident that had occurred near Dr Martin Luther King Jr Avenue on April 21st. When officers arrived, they spoke with Justin Allen, a security guard for the Landing Flats Apartments. Allen advised police that a white Nissan Altima was responsible for breaking into vehicles in the garage of Landing Flats Apartments. Officers located the vehicle, conducted a traffic stop, and demanded the driver to stop. Coleman then put the car in drive and drove off. Officers eventually got the vehicle to stop and took Coleman into custody. Upon being taken into custody, officers smelled a strong smell of marijuana coming from the car as well as smoke leaving the vehicle. Upon officers searching the vehicle, they found 28.7 grams of marijuana underneath the front passenger seat. Coleman was taken into custody for evading arrest.

Ja’mia Estell illegally sells alcoholic beverages with minor present

On April 20th, 21-year-old Ja’mia Estell was caught selling alcohol illegally in a parking lot near South Main Street. When officers made contact with Estell, she admitted to selling beverages that contained alcohol. Estell was with a juvenile as well on the scene and was unable to provide a permit or paperwork for the sale of alcohol. After verifying Estell’s identity, she was found to have a warrant for theft of property and was placed into custody. Jakaisha Lucas, who was also with Estell, refused to obey officers’ commands and was also placed in custody. Estell was taken into custody for contributing to the delinquency of a child and unlawful sale of an alcoholic beverage 

Thalia Yancey-Chalmers punches police officer after refusing to leave hotel

59-year-old Thalia Yancey-Chalmers assaulted a police officer at a hotel near Hickory Hill Road on April 19th. When officers arrived on the scene, they spoke with the property’s general manager, who stated that Chalmers had not paid for her room but was still in there. Officers then spoke with Chalmer’s husband, who advised that he had a place for them to stay. Despite this, Chalmer still refused to leave the hotel. Officers began speaking to Chalmers, informed her she needed to leave, and grabbed her by the arm to detain her. Chalmers then began swinging violently and punched an officer in the chest. Once the officer was struck in the chest, he reflexively punched Chalmers in the face. Chalmers was given medical attention and was taken into custody for assault on a first responder on April 20th. 

Kenesha Tyson hits boyfriend in head with BB gun during argument

On April 19th, 33-year-old Kenesha Tyson was involved in a domestic incident with her boyfriend, Karvelt Brown, at an Emerald Hils Drive residence. When officers arrived on the scene, they observed brown in the front of the home, bleeding from his head. Brown stated Tyson struck him with a firearm after they argued their bedroom. Officers entered the residence, where they located Tyson carrying a black bookbag and purse. Officers proceeded to search both, finding a BB gun made to look like a Glock handgun, a small baggie containing a green substance, and a transparent pink glass pipe. Tyson alleged she was involved in the argument with Brown but never mentioned striking him with the BB gun. The green substance tested positive for marijuana and weighed in at 1.2 grams. Tyson was taken into custody for domestic assault, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Booster Kelsey Mercer steals $1,299 worth of merchandise from Target

28-year-old Kelsey Mercer was taken into custody after stealing from a Target near Highway 64 in multiple incidents between January 30th and March 21st. On January 30th, Mercer arrived at Target in her vehicle and entered the store with two other people. All three individuals conceal merchandise in a bag and walk out of the store without paying, the stolen items totaling $789.98. On March 21st, Mercer and another person entered the Target, placed merchandise in their backpack, and walked out with a total of $509.96. They leave in Mercer’s vehicle, and she is identified as the owner of the car by Target loss prevention on March 26th. The total amount of stolen merchandise was $1,299.94. Mercer was taken into custody on April 19th for theft.

Meisha Scruggs swings at man in front of police after he takes too long to leave

On April 19th, 30-year-old Meisha Scruggs was involved in a domestic incident with Ladarren Easley at her Shady Vista Drive residence. When officers arrived, they spoke with Scruggs, who stated she wanted Easley to leave. Scruggs said she got upset when he took his time getting his items. Scruggs continued to be upset and swung at Easley in front of officers and was detained. Scruggs was deemed to be the primary aggressor and was taken into custody for domestic assault 

DUI: Kyla Crump hits trailer connected to Ford F-250 after having two mixed drinks

On April 19th, 25-year-old Kyla Crump was taken into custody for driving under the influence near Poplar Avenue. When officers arrived, they spoke with Crump, who insisted she only had a shot of alcohol and two mixed drinks. Crump also said she was driving her vehicle before her friend, Jametris Perry, grabbed the steering wheel. She stated this caused the car to enter the emergency lane, striking a trailer connected to a Ford F-250. Officers were unable to conduct a sobriety test due to Crump having a knee injury and having asthma. Officers then requested a whiskey unit after placing Crump into custody, and her blood was drawn subsequently. Crump was taken into custody for failure to exercise due care, driving under the influence, reckless driving, public intoxication, no driver’s license, and violation of financial law.  

Devenje Edwards destroys boyfriend’s clothes during altercation over infidelity

37-year-old Devenje Edwards was involved in a domestic altercation with her boyfriend, Ricardo Gayden, at a Magevney Street residence. When officers arrived, they spoke with Gayden, who stated that he and Edwards were in an altercation over infidelity that became physical when Edwards attacked him. Gayden then claimed that Edwards grabbed a knife and cut several clothing items of his, including shoes, shorts, and shirts. Gayden also claimed Edwards poked him with the knife but not enough to injure him. Officers noticed Gayden had several marks on his face while speaking with him. Officers then found Edwards, who was hiding in a closet, still armed with the weapon. Edwards was taken into custody on April 19th for aggravated assault, domestic assault, and vandalism. 

Porch Pirate Tamekia Bynum steals multiple packages worth $1,400

On February 13th, 43-year-old Porch Pirate Tamekia Bynum was caught stealing at an Ash Briar Avenue residence. When officers arrived on the scene, they spoke with Wayne Rainey, who stated he had checked his ring doorbell camera and observed Bynum stealing packages off his front doorstep and fleeing the scene. Investigators got information from the RTCC about a package theft at a Brierhedge residence that matched the description of Bynum’s vehicle. On February 17th, officers learned that the exact vehicle had committed several acts of theft at numerous different addresses and identified Tamekia Bynum as the suspect in the video. The stolen packages were worth approximately $1,400. Bynum was taken into custody on April 19th for five counts of property theft.

Shannon Enlow caught with magic mushrooms after making illegal U-turn

On April 19th, 22-year-old Shannon Enlow was involved in a drug incident that had occurred near an intersection by Walnut Grove Road and Shelley Renee Lane. Officers noticed a silver sedan making an illegal U-turn and a man hanging his body out of the window in the passenger seat. Officers began to follow before promptly making a traffic stop. When officers made contact with Enlow, who was driving, they asked her if there were any drugs in the car, which she was hesitant to answer. As officers spoke with March Coffield, the passenger in the vehicle, they noticed him covering up an orange purse. Officers noticed his eyes were bloodshot, and he was breathing heavily. Officers then spoke with both of them and asked if Enlow would consent to a vehicle search. Enlow consented to a search initially before retracting her statement when looking at Coffield. Officers then called a K9 unit to the scene. The K9 unit hit the front driver’s side door, indicating narcotics were in the vehicle. Officers then searched the car, and a bag of magic mushrooms was located in the orange purse. Enlow admitted the mushrooms were hers, and she was taken into custody for possession of a controlled substance.
